Born in Chicago 14 September 1955 to a family of Italian, French and Spanish origins.
Pope Leo XIV is a Augustinian priest who has served the Church as a missionary priest in
Peru for over 20 years. The new pope studied at the Dominican University of St Thomas
Aquianas, Rome, known as the Angelicum University.
In 2023, Pope Francis recalled him to Rome to head the Dicastery for the Appointment of Bishops
throughout the world.
