Should we pay taxes to Caesar or not, the Pharisees ask Jesus in today`s gospel. The question raises all sorts of other questions; one of them would be what is Caesar going to do with the money raised by taxation. Our government at present is trying to balance the health of the nation against the financial well being of people. Let`s pray that the aftermath of the virus is not a wider gap between rich and poor; let`s pray for a Spirit of generosity in our country which is likely to include raising taxes. As we go into a second wave of the virus let`s pray for patient endurance in facing restrictions on our freedom we might have thought we`d got beyond. And let`s pray for people who are just not coping with their current situation, that God will give them the strength they need.
